You can delete a GPFS file system that you no longer need. Deletion permanently deletes all data in the file system.

Prerequisites

  • Data that needs to be retained has been backed up or migrated.
  • The file system is not being used by any running training, inference, or data processing tasks.
  • The file system has been unmounted from all compute nodes that use it.
  • You have checked its mount service bindings and unbound the file system if necessary.
  • You understand that data cannot be recovered after deletion.
See Unmount a file system for CES instances. For CKS clusters, also ensure that no workloads use the associated persistent storage before handling the node mounts.

Delete a file system

Deleting a file system permanently deletes its data. Back up or migrate any data you need to retain, stop related tasks, and unmount the file system before proceeding. If you delete it without unmounting, commands such as df on compute nodes may hang.
  1. Log in to the GPU Cloud console and go to GPFS > File System.
  2. Find the file system and click Delete. Check the target file system and confirm as prompted.
  3. Verify that the file system no longer appears in the list.

Impact of deletion

If the file system cannot be deleted, record the error message and contact technical support.
