# Account system overview

> Understand tenants, user roles, and product permissions, and find the steps to provision a tenant or manage accounts.

ScitiX manages users within tenants. Each user has a separate login account, and their role determines which account management tasks they can perform.

## Account system

A tenant is a separate management scope on the platform. Each user belongs to a tenant and has either the organization administrator or member role.

### Tenants and users

| Concept | Description | Scope |
| - | - | - |
| Tenant | A management boundary on the platform. | Contains users and tenant-level information, such as bills and orders. |
| User | A login account within a tenant. | Uses a username and password to sign in and maintains their own password and access keys. |

Request a new tenant if you need to manage users and billing separately from an existing tenant. To let another user access an existing tenant, ask that tenant's organization administrator to add the user. You do not need a new tenant for each user.

> [!NOTE]
>
> A sub-user is a user within a tenant, not a child account of an individual administrator. Adding a user creates a login account in the current tenant.

### User roles

Organization administrators and members can both maintain their own accounts. Organization administrators can also manage other users in the current tenant. A user role controls access to account management pages; it does not grant resource permissions for individual products.

| Task | Organization administrator | Member |
| - | - | - |
| View your own account information and change your password | Yes | Yes |
| Generate and save your own AK/SK | Yes | Yes |
| Add users or manage their roles, passwords, and status | Yes | No |
| View tenant resource quotas | Yes | No |

## Account management

### Open a new tenant

Contact ScitiX support to request a new tenant. The tenant and its first organization administrator are provisioned by the support team, not created in the console. After receiving the account information, the first administrator should sign in and verify the tenant and account details.

### Manage users

Organization administrators can add users to the current tenant and manage existing users' roles, passwords, and status. See [Manage users](https://docs.scitix.ai/account/account-management/manage-users.md).

When adding a user, set the role and account status. Share the login information securely with the user. If the account is enabled, ask them to verify that they can sign in to the correct tenant.

### Manage your own account

* Sign in to the console and open the account menu in the upper-right corner to check your username, email address, and user ID. You cannot edit these login details yourself. Contact ScitiX support if they need to change.
* To update the name and address used for payments and invoices, see [Update your profile](https://docs.scitix.ai/account/account-management/update-profile.md).
* To change your password, see [Change your login password](https://docs.scitix.ai/account/account-management/change-password.md).
* To authenticate an SDK or CLI that requires AK/SK, see [Get access keys (AK/SK)](https://docs.scitix.ai/account/account-management/get-ak-sk.md).

## FAQ

> [accordion] Does signing in grant access to product resources?
>
> No. Creating a tenant user, enabling sign-in, and granting product resource permissions are separate configurations. Account status determines whether a user can sign in. Access to a product's resources also depends on that product's resource permissions.
